Finding A Job With Support
Success Stories
5 February 2025
When Hugh joined Help, he had one clear goal: to secure a locksmith apprenticeship and become a qualified locksmith. He shared his passion for working with his hands and with steel, and our team worked closely with him to build his confidence and job-ready skills.
He started by gaining hands-on experience at a local bakery, which boosted his skills and confidence. Then, Help’s Employment Business Development Manager, Olivia, stepped in to shape a role for Hugh with Inclusive Employer Bretts Trade in their locksmith division.
In August 2024, Hugh began field experience in Bretts’ inclusive workplace, supported by Help’s In Work Support Mentor, Anne-Marie. With their guidance, he developed practical skills in the field.
Olivia continued advocating for Hugh, and with the collaboration of Mas National and Bretts Trade, he achieved his dream: starting a locksmith apprenticeship. This milestone marks the first big step toward his long-term goal!
Watch the video below to hear Hugh’s story and discover job opportunities for people with disabilities through apprenticeships.
This isn’t our first success with Bretts Trade. Former Help client Russell recently celebrated five years of employment, demonstrating the long-term impact of inclusive job opportunities for people with disabilities.
Russell’s role has given him not only financial stability and the opportunity to live independently, but also a sense of purpose and belonging. Over the years, he has become a valued member of the Bretts team and a wonderful example of how meaningful employment transforms lives.
We’re proud to celebrate Hugh’s exciting start and Russell’s remarkable journey!
