One of our much-loved team members Erwin recently celebrated his 10 year anniversary with HELP!

Erwin first came to HELP as a client in 2012, before completing a work trial as a supported employee at our Eagle Farm site.

The support team was quick to notice Erwin’s incredible work ethic and attention to detail and soon offered him another role as a cleaner, servicing a number of our employment offices.

Over the past 10 years, Erwin has received ongoing support from HELP to grow his skills, knowledge, and independence. During this time Erwin has worked with his support team on skill-building activities such as creating his own checklists (to prioritise tasks and procedures on site), learning about different cleaning methods (especially during COVID), and understanding time management (to master his busy multi-site schedule).

With their guidance, he has not only progressed into a permanent part-time role, but he has also become more confident, made lifelong friendships, and established a wide range of new skills.

On a regular day, you’ll find Erwin at one of four HELP sites (Toowong, Fortitude Valley, Nundah, or South Brisbane), dusting, vacuuming, and making sure everything is in tip-top condition. In between tasks Erwin loves to catch up with his teammates and is known for his natural knack for office banter, not to mention his contagious grin! He enjoys the routine that comes with work and always looks forward to Christmas parties where he can have a chat and meet new people.

When we sat down with Erwin to reflect on his time with HELP he shared that he had recently transitioned into open employment and has been enjoying this next stage of his career. He said, “because I know my jobs really well I’ve decided to become independent. It’s good to move on.”

To mark this amazing milestone Erwin was presented with a service award from HELP Regional Manager Lee Roberts followed by a celebration (and cake of course) at our Fortitude Valley office.
