24 January 2024
As 2023 drew to a close, Help farewelled Helen Skippen, who ended her tenure as Board Chair, and celebrated her 25-year legacy with Help. Helen’s contribution has been pivotal; the ecosystem of opportunity we provide for people with disability wouldn’t be what it is today without her guidance and leadership. We’ve captured our appreciation for her years of dedicated leadership in this short video.
2024 brings with it a new chapter, as we welcome John Gilmour as our new Board Chair. John’s 25 years of healthcare experience, balancing clinical practice with management expertise has demonstrated his commitment to supporting people with disability and those facing social disadvantage. His extensive career, notably his leadership at Mater in Brisbane and his role as CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland, reflects his dedication to service. His clinical beginnings as a Physiotherapist, focusing on paediatrics, his academic achievements, and his recognition as a Member of the Order of Australia, all speak to his capacity to lead with knowledge and heart.
In her final year, Helen oversaw the refresh of Help’s five-year strategy—a testament to our organisation’s resilience and forward momentum. Continuing on this path, we are poised to expand our mission’s reach, propelled by our enduring foundations and the experience John brings to the table.
For Help, the future looks bright as we remain steadfast in our commitment to empower and uplift, ensuring Help remains a cornerstone for those we serve for many years to come.
