Finding A Job With Support
30 July 2024
When Graham first came to Help, he was determined to find work despite the challenges he faced. He was looking for compassion, understanding, and genuine support in his disability employment journey, which he found with our Mitchelton team.
Despite having one arm in a sling, ongoing pain, and everyday life challenges, Graham was invested in finding a better path for himself.
He started attending the Mitchelton office for a few hours each day, a suggestion from his Disability Employment Services (DES) coach to get him into a good routine and maximise work opportunities.
“At the beginning, it was challenging for me, but with the support of Help’s team, I am so much stronger. At Help, I felt my concerns, goals, and feelings were truly listened to, and I felt heard,” said Graham.
Ashlee Briggs, Graham’s In-Work Support Mentor, reflected on the importance of taking time to understand a client’s needs and build trust. “With Graham, supporting and being trusted by him to rebuild his confidence in getting back into the workforce made all the difference,” said Ashlee.
During his visits to Help’s office in Mitchelton, Graham worked on upskilling and job searching. Along with that, he benefited from social interaction, support for job applications, and opportunities to engage in various activities to get him ready for work.
With Graham highly committed to finding work, the Disability Employment team at Help supported him to meet potential employers. He is now an employee of Repco.
“Thanks to Help’s team, I got this amazing role at Repco. I never thought I’d work again, and now I’m with an incredible employer and team,” said Graham.
His confidence and happiness can be felt wherever he goes. “Meeting Graham for our appointments since he started working has always been fun, he constantly has a funny story to share. I am so proud of him, and I trust he will continue to do well at work,” said Ashlee.
The Repco team loves having Graham in store, and his manager Erin stated her appreciation for Help’s Partnership Coordinator Jaspa reaching out and helping them fill their vacancy.
After 2.5 years of working with the Mitchelton team during his job search and at Repco, Graham no longer requires support from Help. “Help has been the best provider I’ve ever worked with, and I recommend them to everyone,” said Graham.
