“I come home covered in dirt but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

After a seizure left Shane unable to return to work and without a license he was unsure where to begin. Faced with the challenges of managing his health condition, and caring for his young family, Shane turned to HELP.

Initially, Shane worked with his Coach Jemma to gain medical clearance to get his licence back. Being based in a rural town meant that having reliable transport was a key part of Shane’s first steps to employment. Once Shane was cleared by his GP Jemma organised for Shane’s license renewal to be paid, before helping him to apply for roles, reaching out to local employers on his behalf, and arranging interviews. To assist with Shane’s job search Jemma also sourced a mobile phone for him to use for callbacks and phone interviews.

In the midst of Shane’s job hunt, he battled a number of setbacks (including COVID), but Jemma didn’t give up! It wasn’t long before she had booked an interview for Shane, which resulted in a job trial.

The next day Jemma called Shane to see how the trial went and was ecstatic to hear that Shane had landed the job!

“I instantly started crying because we had worked so hard and been through so many obstacles. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” said Jemma.

To ensure Shane was prepared for his new role Jemma helped Shane purchase appropriate workwear and also provided ongoing support as he settled in to the role.

It’s now been almost 2 months since Shane started as a full-time Farmhand and Truck Driver at Active Turf Supplies. He’s loving his job and says he’s finally up to date with his bills, and is really looking forward to having a positive Christmas with his kids.

“Jemma has been absolutely fantastic. From start to finish Jemma’s had a constant positive can-do attitude and has been incredibly supportive through good days and bad days with helpful information and advice. I am incredibly grateful for Jemma’s hard work in helping me return to the workforce.”
