When our Employment Coach Matthew met Kylie, in August last year, the goal was to support her in getting back on her feet. “It was more than just finding employment” Matthew says. “It was going to be a slow and steady journey, building her confidence and readiness.”
Building confidence and readiness
Having been away from the workforce for over a decade, Kylie needed to regain the confidence to succeed and find a job that fit her life as a mum, along with extra support to strengthen her skills. With persistence and compassion, Matthew worked on everything from nourishing her self-belief to resume-building and finding the right opportunity close to home.
Finding the perfect fit
Today, Kylie shines at a local bakery, assisting customers, managing orders, and helping in the kitchen. “It’s simply priceless to see the smile on Kylie’s face whenever I walk in,” says Matthew.
Matthew’s thoughtful gestures, like buying comfortable shoes to keep her steady in her standing role and providing an easy-to-use calculator for quick orders, eased Kylie’s transition into her new job. These small yet meaningful actions helped set her up for success and boosted her confidence.
The transformative power of work
For Kylie, working again has been transformative. “Having a job makes me feel good about myself. I’m enjoying it and learning so much! On top of that, I’ve already been able to treat my daughter and start a savings plan,” she proudly shares.
Kylie’s journey is a testament to resilience, persistence, teamwork, and the power of meaningful employment for people with disability. We’re proud of her success and are thrilled to celebrate her achievements.
Tailored support
Finding meaningful employment for people with disability can’t be a one-size-fits-all approach. Everyone’s journey is different, and like Kylie’s, their employment support should reflect that.
