News & Stories

Matthew first came to Help over 10 years ago, a shy young man seeking employment support, understanding, and a local job in the Redcliffe area. Help’s team supported him through the process, leading him to a position at a drycleaning company nearby. After making great progress, improving his communication skills, and the ability to work independently, Mathew stayed in the job for 10 years.

However, the business closed and Matthew returned to Help’s office in Redcliffe for employment support in January 2024.

Help team members Olivia and Wendy worked closely with Matthew, helping identify that driving lessons could help him improve his confidence and ability to travel long distances.

“Matthew was incredibly keen and motivated to do anything that was necessary to improve his quality of life and to find a new job”, said Olivia.

With a driver’s license under his belt and his experience and achievements in mind, Help’s team advocated for Matthew in the community and found a new employer for him. He is now working as a Manufacturing Assistant at Pallet Masters in Clontarf.

Understanding individual needs

This focus on understanding individual needs of each client makes a big difference to their success. For Matthew, it meant Wendy accompanying him to his first shift, at 6.30 in the morning, to offer him extra support, help him complete the onboarding paperwork, and answer any questions.

Along with that, Matthew was introduced to all his colleagues who could show him they were friendly and approachable so he could feel comfortable in the new workplace.

“I am very pleased with the employment support I received from the Help team. I am also very happy at my new job, where my colleagues have been supportive,” said Matthew.

Making positive impact to the team

His new employers are also delighted with his addition to the team. “Matthew is a respectful and diligent team member who consistently follows instructions and collaborates well with others. We’re thrilled to have him on our team,” said Christian Villanueva, Site Manager at Pallet Masters. “Having the support from Help has been invaluable, allowing us to contribute positively to our local community,” said Christian.

Pallet Masters partnered with Help for commercial solutions at our Eagle Farm warehouse prior to bringing their operations back in-house with inclusive employment.

We can’t wait to see what Matthew achieves next in this exciting new chapter of his life!
